- Be especially careful in the bathroom, toilet, basement, some areas of the kitchen, on the balcony, loggia and outdoors, as these areas contain conditions that increase the risk of electrical hazards:
- conductive floors (concrete, brick, ceramic tiles);
- metal structures and communication metal pipes (hot and cold water, gas and central heating metal pipes, radiators, bathtub, metal parts of the shower cubicle base, gas and electric stove).
- Lightning protection. You can safely protect your home against lightning surges by using lightning protection systems - internal and external. External lightning protection ensures the safe discharge of lightning current to the ground, while internal lightning protection consists of potential equalization and surge protection systems indoors.
- Mustn't:
- operate electrical devices if even seemingly insignificant damage is visible - damaged casings, damaged insulation of connecting wires, damaged plugs on connecting wires or none at all;
- use homemade or repaired fuse inserts;
- repair electrical appliances connected to the mains;
- change light bulbs and clean fixtures if the power is not turned off;
- driving nails or drilling holes in walls and ceilings without checking for electrical wires;
- use household electrical appliances connected to the mains in the yard or garden: washing machines, irons, juicers, kettles, etc. electrical appliances that are not intended for outdoor use.
- When purchasing a new electrical appliance, it is advisable:
- In particularly dangerous areas, use a residual current device to protect people, pets and property;
- Use multi-wire cables with copper conductors for installation. For single-phase electrical appliances - three-wire cables, for three-phase electrical appliances - five-wire cables and sockets with a protective earth terminal;
- It is recommended to choose devices with double insulation, as this will protect against electric shock and make it easier to connect these devices to the mains;
- for convenient and safe operation, replace old fuses with circuit breakers of appropriate characteristics;
- To ensure uninterrupted operation of office equipment, it is advisable to use an uninterruptible power supply (UPS);
- If it is not possible to purchase devices with double insulation, devices with a protective earthing system should be selected, as evidenced by a plug with a protective earthing terminal.
- It is useful to know that:
- The construction of a home's electrical network may only be carried out by specialists from licensed companies or certified electricians;
- touching electrical devices and grounded structures at the same time can be dangerous;
- Before connecting a new electrical appliance to the mains, carefully read its operating instructions;
- When working outdoors, in a garage, basement, or outbuilding, only special lights that are connected to a 12 V voltage may be used;
- To prevent possible accidents, qualified electrical maintenance and periodic inspections must be carried out. This is carried out by certified specialists.
- If an electrical appliance catches fire:
- disconnect it from the electrical current;
- cover with a thick cloth (no synthetic materials should be used);
- If possible, throw the burning or smoldering electrical appliance out of the house or apartment, making sure in advance that no people are at risk.
Remember!
Do not use water or other liquids to extinguish burning electrical appliances, as this may be dangerous to your life!
