Why was a single number created?
In 1991, the Council of the European Communities decided to introduce the European emergency number 112, requiring all European Union (EU) member states to ensure its functionality.
The European single emergency number 112 operates not only in EU countries but also in Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Monaco, Vatican City, Serbia, North Macedonia, Georgia, San Marino, the Faroe Islands, the Isle of Man, Israel, Türkiye.
