For the celebrations to be spent peacefully and then only with good memories to remain, they must be celebrated safely!
- There are various safety issues to be discussed with school-aged children before the celebrations. For example, when a fire flame is a pleasure, and when it can be a major devastation; what to do if a smoke detector's high-pitched signal sounds; what to do if smoke appears in the dwelling, etc.
- When grafting a house for a celebration, you also have to remember to introduce a temptation in loggios or on a balcony. A burning cigarette casually thrown out of a window by a top-floor neighbour or a lightly fired pyrotechnic can accidentally fall into a balcony or loggia and, if there are combustible things out there, a fire could break out.
- Before decorating your home with strings of electric lights, you should read the instructions carefully and look at the markings on the rope packaging. If you see a sign such as a cottage with an accompanying explanation in English for outdoor use, it means this decoration will be suitable for decorating a tree in the courtyard or the front of the house. Keep in mind that strings intended for indoor use should not be used outdoors, as the bulbs will not withstand the air temperature and will break.
- If already used strings of electric bulbs are used, it is necessary to make sure they are not damaged.
- If you plan to go after the Christmas tree to the woods, you must also take a charged mobile phone with you. It's also a good idea to download the app "112 Latvija". The mobile phone is useful in cases where a person is lost and it is necessary to call firefighters rescuers to help to find a way out of the forest.
- The Christmas tree needs to be secured firmly and steadily so it can't overturn.
- You should not light candles on the Christmas tree or Advent wreath.
- In the midst of holiday preparations, you shouldn't forget about the little ones and leave them unattended for even a moment.
- Candles should be placed at a safe distance from flammable objects (e.g. curtains, furniture, Christmas tree branches, candle decorations), and all other rules related to the safe burning of candles and the use of pyrotechnics should be followed.
- When preparing a celebrations meal, it should not be left unattended.
