This week, five officials of the State Fire and Rescue Service have gone on a business trip to Vilnius, where, within the framework of the PEATFIRE project, they continue to improve their knowledge and response capabilities in extinguishing peat fires, as well as strengthen cooperation with the rescue service of a neighboring country.
At the Vilnius Firefighting School, our representatives, together with colleagues from the Lithuanian Fire Service, are getting acquainted with tactical solutions used in cases of peat fires. The specific features of such fires and working conditions that must be taken into account when working in swampy areas are analyzed. The organization of rescue operations, the provision of first aid, as well as current ecological issues related to extinguishing peat fires are widely discussed. Special attention is paid to the use of modern technologies and equipment in large-scale reconnaissance.
