A two-day tabletop exercise is taking place in Daugavpils, with the participation of representatives of the Lithuanian Fire Service and officials of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). The training is organized within the framework of the PEATFIRE project, which aims to improve the management and effective extinguishing of peat fires in Latvia and Lithuania.
During the tabletop exercise, participants analyze possible peat fire scenarios, develop action plans, and evaluate cooperation mechanisms between the two countries. This type of training is particularly important because it promotes knowledge exchange and the development of professional competencies, allowing participants to learn the latest methods and develop tactics necessary for extinguishing complex and long-lasting fires.
These exercises also strengthen the ability to respond quickly and effectively to problem situations, as well as improve cooperation and coordination between Latvian and Lithuanian rescue services. The accumulated experience promotes mutual understanding, increases operational readiness and ensures more effective action in the event of real threats.
International-scale exercises like PEATFIRE significantly strengthen both professional development and mutual trust between services of neighboring countries, while contributing to the overall safety of citizens and environmental protection in both countries.
