The book is published in two languages - the history and development of Latvian Voluntary Fire Association published in Latvian, author Solveiga Smiltene; the history and development of Estonian Voluntary Fire Association, published in Estonian, author Tonu Kiiver.

Solveiga Smiltene was involved in fire service for more than 30 years of her life and actively supported the volunteer fire activity Latvian all this time, collected and compiled materials for the fire history and development.

All the project FireSafe partners - State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia, Salacgrīvas County Council, the Latvian Volunteer Fire Association as well as Häädemeeste Municipality (Estonia) were involved for creation and publishing of the book.

The book will be transferred to the museums, libraries, volunteer fire brigades - to publicize and raise Volunteer Fire Association activities in Latvia and Estonia.

Open Day was held at Latvian Firefighting museum in May 10. This event was organised within framework of the Estonian-Latvian border cooperation program supported by the EU project "Volunteer firefighters work and fire safety issues " (FireSafe).

This day museum entrance was free of charge for the visitors at. 9.00 to 17.00 as well as a special program was organised.

The program includes:

- Museum Exhibition visit for individual and group tours;
- Documentary and feature film demonstration on fire safety and rescue themes;
- mastering fire-fighting skills by using a project FireSafe financing equipment.
